At their February meeting, the Banks County Board of Education took a moment to honor the achievements of the Lady Leopard volleyball team, applauding the athletes for their commitment and efforts in developing the program.
 
This season marked a significant milestone for the Lady Leopards as they advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in the state tournament for the first time, an unprecedented achievement in the team's brief history. They concluded the season with an impressive 30-10 record and secured runner-up in the 2A Region 8.
 
The team's roster, including Cate Loudermilk, Bryanna Hernandez, Kimber Meister, Shae Britt, Emmie Chitwood, Savannah Griffith, Shayna Vickery, Bacey Ausburn, Caitlin Bernier, Addison Hoard, Raeden Hunter, Lillee Parson, and Lola Pruitt, was commended for their performance.
 
Coach Whitney LaHayne, in presenting the certificates of recognition, expressed pride in the team's progress, stating, "Being part of this program for only four years and witnessing such dedication and unity is truly remarkable. The resilience and camaraderie shown by our team reflect the strong community spirit of Banks County, and I am incredibly proud to be involved."
 
Board member Shane Roberts commended the team's success, recalling initial skepticism about establishing a volleyball program. He praised the athletes for their hard work and determination, emphasizing the capability of Banks County to achieve greatness with perseverance.
 
The meeting also spotlighted the accomplishments of other students, particularly those in the Future Farmers of America program, who garnered top honors at the state competition. High school assistant principal William Foster announced victories in Senior Forestry, Junior Wildlife, and Senior Wildlife, with Luke Johnson winning an area championship in EMC Electrical Wiring.
 
Additionally, important upcoming events for the primary school, including honors days, field trips, and special events like Kindergarten graduation in May, were highlighted by Dr. Mike Boyle. 

Spelling Bee

 

The Banks County Board of Education celebrated the achievements of the district's spelling bee champions during their January meeting, following the 2024 Banks County Spelling Bee held on January 17 at the board's facility.

 

Jackson Chapman, a talented sixth grader, clinched the Banks County School System Spelling Bee Champion title. Fourth grader Oliver McFaddin impressed everyone as the event's runner-up.

 

The spelling bee saw winners and runners-up from grades four through eight, each demonstrating exceptional spelling skills. The champions from each grade were as follows:

 

  • 4th Grade: Oliver McFadden winner-Brooksy Crocker runner-up 
  • 5th Grade: Logan Couch winner-Landyn Hyde runner-up 
  • 6th Grade: Jackson Chapman winner- Gauge English  runner-up
  • 7th Grade: Riley Grogan winner-Daniela Guzman Ortiz runner-up.
  • 8th Grade: Shylah Chavis winner- Eli Duncan runner-up
Banks County Board of Education Recognizes System Teacher, Teacher, and Classified Employee of the Year
 
Banks County Board of Education recognized each school's Teacher of the Year and Classified Person of the Year at the last BOE meeting on November 16th.

The system winner was Kipp Jackson, who will go on to compete for the Georgia State Teacher of the Year.
 
The awards banquet was sponsored by Jackson Electric Membership Corporation and Georgia Power.
