The Georgia Department of Education School Nutrition Division—alongside the Georgia Department of Agriculture, University of Georgia Extension, and the Georgia Department of Public Health—has recognized Banks County Schools with a Georgia Farm to School Award for the 2024–2025 school year.
This statewide honor celebrates districts that connect students with locally grown foods, offer agriculture-integrated learning, and build partnerships that strengthen Georgia’s food system.
In Banks County, Farm to School efforts include locally grown items in our cafeterias, featuring taste tests and harvest-of-the-month promotions, coordinating classroom lessons tied to nutrition and agriculture, and collaborating with local farmers and community partners.
“This honor reflects the best of Banks County,” said School Nutrition Director Nicole Blalock. “From our nutrition staff to our teachers, administrators, students, and families, Farm to School works because our whole system works together. We’re deeply grateful to our team, our community partners, and the local farmers who bring fresh, Georgia-grown foods to our schools. This recognition belongs to the entire community.”
This marks the second consecutive year Banks County Schools has earned the Georgia Farm to School Award, following recognition in 2023–2024.
