I want to take this opportunity to sincerely apologize for a situation that occurred at this season’s home opening football game. Music containing vulgar language and profanity was played prior to our players taking the field. This is not who we are as people and this is not what our program is about. It is totally unacceptable, and I take full responsibility for it and promise this situation will not occur again. Additionally, new procedures will be put into place to address any cursing, derogatory comments, or other general vulgar language within our program during practice, games, and any other team functions. We will also begin weekly character education lessons as part of our practice time. The young men associated with our program have done an outstanding job in their growth in many areas including commitment, perseverance, hard work, attitude, and teamwork, but we still have room for improvement. We will have an understanding of the importance of our language and our actions and how these impact the perception of us as individuals as well as a program that we have worked so hard to improve. Once again, I personally apologize to any parent, coach, fan, or child who heard this prior to our game. My staff and I will work diligently to ensure that this does not happen again.
In good faith and in an effort to demonstrate our commitment to these corrections and making things right for our students and our community, I invite all students to wear “spirit wear” (school colors or logo) to receive free admission to our next home game, Friday, September 20th.
Thank you and Go Leopards!
