As you may recall, the state assessment changed last school year (2014-2015) from the Criterion Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) and End of Course Test (EOCT) to the Georgia Milestones Assessment System in grades 3 through 12. Through this new assessment system, students in grades 3 through 8 participated in the End of Grade (EOG) assessments while students in high school participated in the End of Course (EOC) assessments associated with the eight EOC courses. Due to this change, there was a delay in the receipt of score reports. The reports have recently arrived and should accompany this letter if your child participated in the Georgia Milestones Assessment last school year in the Banks County School System.
The following are differences to be noted within the new Georgia Milestones Assessments:
The purpose of the assessment is to not only measure how well students have learned the knowledge and skills outlined in the state content standards, but to provide information regarding each student’s strengths and weaknesses. The report breaks down the results by domain for each assessment, which will inform teachers the areas to look to accelerate, monitor, or remediate learning. You will also notice a comparison portion of the report that indicates how your child’s performance compares to other students within the school, throughout the state and nation.
Beginning this school year (2015-2016), student scores on Georgia Milestones Assessments will be used in the following ways, as directed by the state of Georgia:
The Georgia Department of Education has developed Frequently Asked Questions documents that can be accessed at the following sites: http://goo.gl/tG4KLH (general information); http://goo.gl/fujo3W (End of Grade); andhttp://goo.gl/Ld8gJP (End of Course). If you have additional questions, please contact the testing coordinator at your child’s school. We look forward to working with you to continue to help each of our students succeed.
The Banks County Employees of the Year were recognized at the November 16, 2015 reception prior to the Board Meeting. We would like to again congratulate all of our Teachers, Paraprofessionals, and Classified Employees of the Year.
