Contractors are invited to submit lump sum bids for Bid Package One (1) through Twenty-Nine (29), Banks County High School Addition. Sealed bids will be received by the Construction Manager until 3:00 p.m., Thursday, February 9, 2012, at the Gainesville Office of the Construction Manager, Charles Black Construction Company, Inc., 604 Washington Street, Suite A-2, Gainesville, Georgia 30501. Bids must be submitted in Duplicate on the Construction Manager’s Proposal Form along with a 5% Bid Bond if required by the Bid Package. No Faxed Bids Accepted.

 Attention Freshmen: We will be taking a trip to Athens Technical College on Friday, Feb. 10. If you are interested in attending the college trip, please pick up a permission form from Ms. Miller in the front office ASAP as space is limited to one bus (50 students). The qualifications for attending the college trip are as follows: No more than 2 unexcused absences this semester, passing 5 out of 7 classes and no ISS/OSS for the year. Please submit your completed permission forms to Ms. Miller or Ms. Suggs ASAP. The deadline to submit the permission form is Wednesday, Feb. 8.

Banks County Elementary and High School Receive Governor’s Awards |

 The Georgia Department of Education recently announced Banks County Elementary School as the recipient of the Platinum Award 2010-2011 in recognition of the students and staff of the school making the greatest gains in percentage of students meeting or exceeding standards based on the 2010-2011 CRCT testing. Banks County Elementary is one of only 22 other elementary schools in the state to be honored with such an accolade.
Banks County High School was heralded as a Bronze Award winner for 2010-2011 for highest performance on the Georgia High School Graduation Test. Only 13 other high schools in the state received such a prestigious recognition.
Of the recently bestowed honor, Michael Williams, principal of BCES said, “I am so very proud of the faculty, staff, and students. I have watched these teachers work incredibly hard each year to give our students the best education possible and this award affirms their efforts.”
Banks County High School Principal, Art Wheaton, was elated with the announcement of the award he told faculty and staff. “I am proud of our students and teachers not only for this accomplishment,” said Wheaton, “but for their team efforts and commitment.”
Awards are based on Full Academic Year (FAY) student, CRCT grades 3-8 in Reading, ELA, Math, Social Studies, and Science, and GHSGT grade 11 first time test takers in English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. An additional requirement includes the school making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two consecutive years. All the requirements are based on the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) federal mandate.

 Banks County High School is hosting a College & Career Fair on Friday, February 17, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. We are encouraging all local businesses to attend this event and take part in educating our young adults of Banks County. Set up will begin at 7:30 a.m. in the gym.
